How it works

Formula

IPF GL = result × 100 ÷ (A − B·e^(−C·BW))

Constants by sex, equipment and event (IPF, 2020).

DOTS = total × 500 ÷ quartic(BW)
Wilks = total × 500 ÷ quintic(BW)

Worked example

Given: Men's classic, 83 kg, 560 kg total

  1. Denominator = 1199.73 − 1025.18 × e^(−0.00921 × 83) ≈ 722.40.
  2. GL ≈ 77.52; DOTS ≈ 378.05; Wilks ≈ 373.80.

Result: 77.52 GL points.

FAQ

What's the difference between GL, DOTS and Wilks?

All normalize results by body weight. Wilks is the classic formula; the IPF has used GL points since 2020, with separate coefficients by event and equipment; DOTS is used by many other federations.

What is a good GL score?

100 GL points equals the average elite lifter at your body weight. World champions usually score above 100.
