Blood glucose and cholesterol

To convert glucose, total / LDL / HDL cholesterol or triglycerides between mmol/L and mg/dL, use the Lab Unit Converter.

Unit conversion only. Normal ranges differ for armpit, oral, ear and rectal readings; ask a clinician whether a temperature is a fever or a weight is healthy.

Estimates based on general formulas, for information only. Not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Unit conversion only. It does not tell you whether you have a fever or a healthy weight. Body temperature depends on where it is measured; ask a clinician if you feel unwell.

How it works

When to use it

  • Reading height and weight on medical, passport or visa forms that use the other unit system.
  • Converting a Fahrenheit thermometer reading or health advice written in Celsius.

Formula

inches = cm ÷ 2.54; feet = whole part of inches ÷ 12, the remainder is inches

1 in = 2.54 cm exactly.

lb = kg ÷ 0.45359237

1 lb = 0.45359237 kg exactly.

°F = °C × 9/5 + 32; °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9

Worked example

Given: Height 175 cm, weight 70 kg, temperature 38.5 °C

  1. Height: 175 ÷ 2.54 ≈ 68.9 in; 68.9 ÷ 12 = 5 remainder 8.9, so 5 ft 8.9 in.
  2. Weight: 70 ÷ 0.45359237 ≈ 154.3 lb.
  3. Temperature: 38.5 × 9/5 + 32 = 101.3 °F.

Result: 5′8.9″, 154.3 lb, 101.3 °F.

Reading the result

  • Imperial heights are usually rounded to the nearest inch, so 5 ft 8.9 in is written 5′9″.
  • Converting changes only the unit. Armpit readings run lower than oral or ear readings, so compare against the range for the same site.

Limitations

  • Uses the avoirdupois pound, not the troy pound.
  • It does not judge whether a weight is healthy; see BMI and ask a clinician.

How to use

  1. 1Type a value in any box; the other units in the group update instantly.
  2. 2Enter height in centimeters or as feet plus inches.
  3. 3Use the reference tables for common values; glucose and cholesterol are in the Lab Unit Converter.

FAQ

How tall is 175 cm in feet?

175 ÷ 2.54 ≈ 68.9 inches, which is 5 ft 8.9 in — usually written 5′9″.

How many pounds is a kilogram?

1 lb is exactly 0.45359237 kg, so 1 kg ≈ 2.2046 lb. 70 kg is about 154.3 lb.

How do I convert body temperature?

°F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. For example 38.5 °C = 101.3 °F and 100.4 °F = 38 °C.
