FAQ

What does “1 = D” mean?

The number 1 (do) is the note D, i.e. the tune is in D major: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 = D E F# G A B C#.

How do I type octave dots?

A dot above (higher octave) is 1' or [1]; a dot below (lower octave) is 5, or (5). Repeat for two octaves: 1'' or [[1]].

Movable do vs fixed do?

Numbered notation is movable do—1 is always the key's tonic. This tool converts it to fixed note names.
